Jerash: The City of Columns – Travel Throwback

  • ARCH OF HADRIAN – built to honor the visit of Emperor Hadrian to Gerasa in 129/130 AD.
  • HIPPODROME – where you can experience and watch a Roman Army performances, gladiator fights, and the occasional chariot race  also even today.
  • OVAL FORUM – the main attraction in Jerash, bordered by 160 Ionic columns.
  • CARDO MAXIMUS – a colonnaded street run to the length of the city about 600m (1,968ft).
  • TETRAPYLON –  dated to Roman period at the end of the 2nd century AD, it is the intersection of Jerash’s Cardo with the first cross street.
  • PROPYLAEUM – it leads to the Temple of Artimes.
  • TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS – a temple ruins built at the highest points and dominated the whole city which was dedicated to the Ancient Greek deity.
  • SOUTH THEATRE – it was said built during the reign of Domitian, c. 90 AD, and held over 3,000 spectators.
